Kumu Kahi at Heaths Ceramics

A huge gratitude goes out to Wendy Tsuji, Frank Fost, and Olukai for curating Heath Ceramics first design panel in conjunction with the Heath News Stand, and inviting myself, Mark Kushimi, Dean Song, and Matt Lutrell for a weekend of studio visits at the Letterform Archive, the Heath Ceramics factory and studios, and the Autodesk Gallery.

Four Creative Directors from Hawai`i discuss how the islands inform both work and play. A conversation on graphic design, photography, surf and the power of independent magazines to transcend the borders of these islands. Barely a generation ago, it was commonplace for designers to come to the mainland to establish their careers. Now, a new creative class has successfully harnessed the power of the internet’s reach to enable their analog work. Their points of view reach far beyond the coasts of Hawai`i, though they still call the islands home.
